Dedication to the hometown

Alright, soooo I haven't posted in a while (due to the holidays and I was no where near a scanner). But anyways... This is a sketch that I finally finished dedicated to my hometown and it's awesome (but sometimes very aggravating) football team.

BG Concepts

I was reading the Skillful Huntsman and started drawing from the pictures that I saw. The first one is from the book. I added some things but most of it is the same as the book. The next two is something I thought up.

Skylar-color

The finished version of the Skylar sketch. It took a while but I think it was worth it. I exspecially like the bird.

A rough sketch I did of a wood nymph holding a baby. It ties in with a story I have been working on for a while. I plan on coloring it at sometime.

Willow

I did this sketch today and forced myself to color it. I liked the way it turned out. I might put a background on it later, but I'm not making any promises.

I shot this picture in 2005. I was looking through my old photos from senior year and found it. I always liked the composition and the sky was so beautiful that day.

Natasha pt2

A slightly altered version of Natasha. This one seems to stay more true to her full body picture. Though, I'll probably alter her a bit in photoshop. Maybe make her nose longer.

Natasha

Hello all! It’s been a while since I last posted...and that’s due to one stupid uncontrollable thing. I'm currently getting over an artist block (man they suck). But I'm glad to say that this one wasn't too long as the last one I had (that lasted two years!).
Anyways, this is Natasha. She’s from a series I was thinking about doing...
She’s supposed to be apart of a band of assassins, but I still don’t know the details yet...
I'm taking my time with this one.
I drew the cartoony style of Natasha first and created the realistic style of her out of a whim (kinda just wanted to see if I could do it). I mostly like to draw in a simpler cartoon style, but this was a refreshing change. I pretty sure I'll continue with it.

Rosie in color

I finally decided to add some color to Rosie. For this I was testing out different shades and colors to her skin. The blue tint version is my favorite. It seems more dramatic then the burgandy one and pops more. I still dont know whats shes going to look like. I tried these as an experiment.

Stephanie color

Here are the color versions of the Stephanie studies. Bo Peep is my favorite! I like the color contrast between orange and blue. It's nice to look at...anyways this is all vector work. I did most of it in illustrator and added a couple of elements in photoshop. Overall I like the way everything turned out.

Rosie- Actions

Another quick study of Rosie. I was trying to figure out what I would want her to wear on certain occasions. These are just some of the designs. To the left, more casual 'special event' wear, then a night gown, work and the last one was just normal 'picnic' sort of dress.

Drawing of the Day - Rosie Face Study

So this is Rosie again. I wanted to work on a face study for her since I haven't done one in a while... Anyways, it was a lot of fun and if I have time I just might color it.

Rosie

I've been working on this one for a while as well. She's one of those characters that I just couldn't get right. Rosie is apart of o book that I'm writing right now. This is her one of the designs I drew of her when shes a bit younger.
I can't wait to color this one and it was tons of fun doing the face expressions.

Stephanie Study

Soooo, this is huge study of Stephanie. I had posted these pictures up earlier but their res was huge so I deleted them. Anyways, this should be the right size for you to see them. Stephanie is actually based on a character I started drawing in 9th grade (long time ago). Back then, she was a bit more animeish and realistic.
During the years she evolved into a number of different styles that I was never satisfied with...
In the end she became apart of a series that I wanted to turn into a TV show or comic someday...I just could never get her final design down.
This design is still a work in progress on Stephanie. She's also a bit more insane then her first couple of versions...and a bit eccentric.
She's also apart of a totally different storyline then the one I wrote up years ago. I like her this way, but will probably still pursue the one I made when I was in high school.

Color- Jelly Woman

YAY!!! I finally finished Jellywoman! This one was really hard to do... I haven't colored like this for a looong time. It took about 5 hours to do (I was trying bring back my technique most of the time). But i'm glad its over and I'm very satisfied with the outcome.

I started outlining her in photoshop and then started to color her, but for some reason I just wasn't feeling it. After hours of struggling with it, I decided to color her in Painter (I have 9.5).

That seemed to work for me, so I finished her off in that program. The Brush I used was oil pastel (It does wonders!!! Exspecially for skin).

Now all I have to do is matte it and present it for class!

Comic1

Alright, soooo this is a comic I'm thinking about doing. It involves a group of characters I drew in class last quarter. This is basically a sketch of what I might do for it. I can't wait to ink and color!

Scorpion

Another concept for my final for class. I really didn;t have much fun with this guy. By the time I drew him all my creative juice was drained. Anyways he's part scoprion, human, gorilla, kangaroo, goat and giraffe.

Jellywoman and Tigerman

This is one of my last projects for class. YAY! Then I'll be pretty much finished with school. I'm taking three classes and one of them happens to be comparitive anatomy. For the final I have to combine a human and whatever animal(s) I want to create one bizarre animal. Here are some of my designs for the project.
On the right is 'Tigerman'. Of course he's have tiger, also human and is a mixture of also bird, snake and zebra.
The one on the left 'jellywoman' is what I've chosen for the final. She's mixed with a jellyfish, squid, vulture, turtle and human.

Character Concept- Siamese Twins

Concepts for one of the other characters in the 'Freakshow' short. One of the tents holds the siamese twins. The first design I made of the is the inked version on the left. I made them originally in suits with huge dentures. When I was creating them I thought of 'old-english gentlemen'. For there animation, their suppose to be fighting over a pair of large rotting dentures that they both share. Ick...
For the class review they wanted me to clean them up a bit, which is shown on the right. We also decided to have one with a long beard and the other with a handle-bar mustache (just to tell them apart). In the final version of the twins they

have spandex pants with no shirt, but their faces remained the same.

Early Concept-Magicians Assistant

I did this concept work in spr 08. It was for a project that my 2D studio class was doing called 'Freakshow'. To pass we had to make a 3 minute short on a story that we choose from several pitches we had to present the first week. Freakshow was chosen and we were all assigned to do some sort of character design for each of the characters.
The story is basically about a young boy who wonders into an old carnival. While he's walking around he peeks in different tents that have these bizarre people that...well...are basically part of a freakshow.
The woman is a FAILED magicians assistant. The story was going to be based in the a victorian era (hince the long dress with frills). The style we were going for were curves and spirals. This concept didn't get to far, since it wouldn't been a hassel to animate the curls and dress...
Anyways what makes her fit apart of the story is that her failed boss at one point in time had a little accident with the saw...and instead of magically sawing her body in half, he literally cut her in two. In the animation I did of her, it shows her torso and lower body seperating and walking away in opposite directions. The walk cycle for that was fun.

Nymph of Air- Line Art

I just decided to draw this girl one day. I did it because I finally got the new version of painter and I wanted to try out coloring her in it. I like it, it turned out well. I payed close attention to the line work (since I dont bother with that much nowadays).

Colored_version

So I finally got the time to do this. It didn't take me too long to color the characters (maybe an hour in a half). I will be using all of them for my demo reel (since apart of the reel will be character design). This is one of the styles that I will be putting on it.

Caricatures

This is a sequence of drawings that I did of my co-workers. It a sort of twisted dark style and I like how they turned out.

Wicked Witch - color

This is the colored version of the wicked witch (aka Stephanie). She's suppose to be some really fun, wacky character, which is why she has so many colors on. She actually suppose to be French (hence the flag on her helmet). But I liked the way it came out. It took me a while to finish this one because of some minor disractions. Anyway what normally would of took me two days, actually took me two weeks.
I colored her in illustrator with way crazy detail then I normally do (I tried somthing new with er hair, the rest is pretty much the same). This is probably the only one I'm going to color out of the three pics of Stephanie. But this will defiantly go on my home webpage when I put it up.
